As you enter the hall of the town hall, you will discover a beautiful stained glass window by François Décorchemont illuminating the main staircase. The scene, depicting King St. Louis accompanied by his people, is inspired by a legend: on a particularly sweltering summer's day, the sovereign, during one of his stays in Vernon, was given watercress to quench his thirst.
The town?s coat of arms, with its three bunches of watercress, evokes this episode, while the three fleurs-de-lis remind us that Vernon was a royal town.
Behind the town hall, a small shady square features a fountain.
