Buste de Claude Monet
In Giverny, on the banks of the River Epte, a bust of Claude Monet pays tribute to the famous Impressionist painter. Created by sculptor Daniel Goupil and installed in 2007, this work occupies a site steeped in history. It was here that Claude Monet set up his easel to paint his famous Poplars series.
A few words from the artist at the foot of the sculpture:
"This bust is the culmination of many studies that lead as close as possible to the inaccessible truth of the painter's presence. I wanted to portray a mature man in full possession of his abilities at the height of his art. The fullness and shape of his beard symbolize both the strength and the fluid, undulating, shifting currents present in his work. This fluidity leads us to the vibrations of his face, which underline the questioning of his gaze, sheltered and protected by the neutral mass of his hat."
